A Little Bit of History

Magor is the English version of the old Welsh name Magwyr, meaning “a wall.” There are some ancient Roman ruins in the immediate area of the modern village. That may account for the name. The vicinity around Magor contains many Roman ruins and artifacts, which makes the place a gold mine for history buffs. The modern village has been around since at least the latter part of the 16th century when it first appeared on local maps.
